Ben Nichols gigposter process highlights
For the last four years, every June, Ben Nichols of the band Lucero has come to Minneapolis to play a fundraier show for Vince Murray’s St. Jude Memphis to Peoria Run. I was very fortunate to be able to donate my time and the sales of all the posters for the second year in a row. I wanted to step up my game and do posters for both days that Ben was playing this year. The Saturday show was held at Grumpy’s NE here in Northeast Minneapolis and the Sunday night at First Avenue in the 7th Street Entry.
I had a theme in mind for this years posters. I had just finished reading Cool Hand Luke and watched the movie for the hundredth time. I always remember at the beginning of the movie when Paul Newman’s character Luke was cutting off the heads of parking meters and thought it would go well with the southern style rock that Ben and Lucero play. I also wanted to make the posters carry on the theme, so if you bought both posters you could hang both of them in a room and they would compliment each other. Also since I was printing about sixty gigposters, for two different days, I needed a way to make the posters in a quick and efficient way. The following photos are the results of one very late night of printing and beer drinking.
Vince is participating in his 9th St. Jude Memphis to Peoria Run (July 30 – Aug 2) and raising money to help St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital find cures and save children battling childhood cancer and other deadly diseases. If you’re interested there is still time to donate. You can go to Vince’s St. Jude Personal Fundraising Page.
Thanks to Vince and Ben for letting me be a part of such a great weekend.
